Burkina Faso

In Burkina Faso, more than 40% of people live below the poverty line. People in Burkina Faso face challenges of limited access to basic infrastructure, food insecurity that causes health and developmental issues, and worsening floods and droughts.

Here’s how Humanity First USA is helping.

Humanity First USA works hand-in-hand with local residents and partners like IAAAE to dig wells and build water infrastructure in Africa. Since 2007, we’ve completed over 200 installations, primarily refurbished hand pumps in villages throughout Burkina Faso, supplying more than 290,000 people with clean drinking water.

Basic eyecare like eyeglasses and cataract surgeries can treat most vision problems, which is why Humanity First USA operates a mobile eye clinic and works in collaboration with Ahmadiyya Mission Hospital in Burkina Faso to provide life-changing eyecare services. In the last decade, more than 10,000 free eye surgeries have restored vision to people across the country.

In 2018, Humanity First USA began to build schools in underserved communities in Burkina Faso. Our first high school in Koubri near Ouagadougou, the capital, opened its doors in 2019, and our primary school in 2020. The schools welcome over 200 youth to learn together.

Training for Women Entrepreneurs

Humanity First USA runs a sewing center in Burkina Faso, training people, majority female, in basic and advanced textile work. These entrepreneurs can bring their skills back to their villages, improving life for their families and their communities.

Through drought and civil unrest, HFUSA has supported HF Burkina Faso and local partners to distribute food, water, and supplies to people in need since 2018. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Humanity First global response served over 63,000 people with sanitation supplies, PPE, and blood donations.
