HF's Response in Jamaica

HF Canada has led HF’s response to Hurricane Melissa in Jamaica. Longer-term rehabilitation projects are being planned in collaboration with local authorities, while HF supported immediate relief.

Falmouth Infirmary: A primary care facility that houses 60–80 residents with special needs.

  • The residents had pre-evacuated to a nearby primary school. But the school had no electricity or running water
  • Humanity First provided emergency power from an HF generator and solar-powered rechargeable lights
  • HF trained staff on the use of a Noah water purification system
  • HF provided hygiene supplies, medical products, and food service equipment

Hague (Trelawny): A women-led collective that requested water and food for area residents.

  • Humanity First partnered with Canada’s GlobalMedic and Salvation Army Jamaica
  • Together we distributed Family Emergency Kits (hygiene products and water filters) plus Emergency Food Kits (rice, beans, peas, and other nutritious non-perishables)
