The Indian Ocean Tsunami

On December 26, 2004, a 9.1-magnitude earthquake caused the Indian Ocean Tsunami, affecting Indonesia, Thailand, and Sri Lanka, along with other countries in the region. In Indonesia only, over 100,000 people were killed, with at least a 100,000 more missing or presumed dead.

Our Impact

During this disaster, Humanity First USA provided over 60,000 hot meals, treated 7,500 patients through medical camps, and dispensed 16 shipping containers’ worth of emergency relief supplies, successfully helping 30,000 people in total.
